Troubleshooting: Tracking not working
Use this checklist if you see no data in Google Analytics.
Checklist
1. Measurement ID saved?
- Open AB: Google Analytics
- Confirm your ID is saved (format
G-...) - Re-save if you recently changed GA4 properties
2. Theme Extension active?
- In the app, Theme Extension must show Active
- Open theme editor → App embeds → ensure AB: Google Analytics is ON
- Click Save in the theme editor
3. Correct GA4 property?
- In analytics.google.com, open the property linked to your Measurement ID
- Measurement ID in the app must match the Web stream in that property
4. Testing on the live storefront?
- Preview themes may behave differently
- Test on your public store URL
- Check GA4 Realtime while browsing the store
5. Custom events not firing?
- Enable custom events tracking must be ON
- GA4 API Secret must be filled in
- Click Save custom events after any change
- Measurement ID must be saved first
6. Ad blockers & privacy tools
- Browser extensions can block GA4
- Test in incognito with extensions disabled
7. Recent install?
- Realtime: few minutes
- Full reports: up to 24–48 hours
Quick test
- Save Measurement ID + active Theme Extension
- Open your store in a new browser tab
- In GA4, go to Reports → Realtime
- You should see at least 1 active user
